Bougainvillea is often grown as an annual or container plant.
The actual flower is small and insignificant, it is the colorful bracts, or modified leaves, which can be seen in all shades of pink, purple, and red that attract attention
Bougainvillea is a genus of 18 flowering plants, native to South America, and in the Nyctaginaceae (four-o’clock) family.
They are woody vines with a scrambling habit. Plant them in full sun in sandy or loamy acidic soils with good drainage.
They are tolerant of drought, heat, and salt.
The bracts can be seen in all shades of pink and purple, and also red, yellow, white, salmon and orange.
This is Grenada’s national flower.
